Welcome Home!
Where are you from? What does “home” mean to you?
Home is a Changeling is a monthly series with two semi-alternating components: a) short essays and explorations and b) podcast-style readings and interviews. Each will explore the theme of home, and what that looks like for those of us for whom home might be more difficult to pinpoint, or even locate.
I’ve lived in a lot of different parts of the country, which has been both exciting and challenging. One effect of this movement is my inability to define what home is for me, and the deeper, unanswerable questions of where exactly I’m “from” and who I really am.
Through the lens of my own experiences, I explore these questions and reflect on how they have shaped my past, present, and future. I hope that reading my stories unlocks some recognition: that you discover places where home dwells for you and in you, and that “home” doesn’t always have to have just one address, or any address at all.
For some background info and the premise of this newsletter, please read my introductory post, Welcome Home, first.
Other than Welcome Home, there’s no order in which you are required to read my past newsletters or listen to the podcast. Want to remember freshman year of college? Or travel across the country with me in 2020? Or maybe just listen to a chat between me and my amazing brother?
They’re all available at ashleighellskells.substack.com. Choose your own adventure and GO!
For some of my earlier writing, you can check out my Wordpress blog archive (2015-2020): Ecofeminist in the Wilderness (note: I no longer update this site, but there’s some good stuff there)!
Some housekeeping…
If you can’t find the newsletter, check your spam folder. And please mark this address as ‘not spam.’ If the newsletter isn’t in your spam folder, either, you should look in the Promotions tab.
You can always see everything on the website, including the nice color background I’ve chosen for my site ;)
If you’re having trouble with the Podcast feature of this series, this link will help demystify downloading my podcast to your app (a little). Or you can always listen in your browser.
Thanks again, and please tell your friends if there’s something here that resonates with you—the more the merrier!
With love and appreciation,
Ashleigh
